December 14, 2022 - Jabbar R. Bennett, Ph.D.
MSU students, staff and faculty,
Next month will mark the 43rd Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration at Michigan State University. This annual celebration coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 16, 2023. It serves as an opportunity for the campus community to come together and honor the life and legacy of Dr. King.
The MLK Planning Committee is finalizing a variety of events to commemorate Dr. King with programming guided by this year’s theme of “Living Purpose, Promise and Perseverance Now.” Commemorative activities are starting on Thursday, Jan. 12 and will continue through Friday, Jan. 20. Events will include the 2023 Community Unity Dinner, the annual MLK Student Leadership Conference and the MLK Commemorative March, in addition to numerous other events and programs. Check the MLK Events Calendar regularly for information and updates.
I invite you to join your fellow Spartans and the surrounding community to participate in these events highlighting Dr. King’s message. With the recent addition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a full university holiday, I encourage reflection on his legacy and how we can collectively advance it with purpose and perseverance.
I look forward to learning and growing together as a community during the upcoming Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration.
Sincerely,
Jabbar R. Bennett, Ph.D. (he/him)
