CoREM welcomes new underrepresented employees

October 8, 2024 - Audrey Bentley

On Oct. 7, the Coalition of Racial and Ethnic Minorities, or CoREM, held its annual welcome reception at Cowles House, celebrating the arrival of new faculty, administrators and staff of color to Michigan State University. The theme for the 2024 event was “Desde Aqui y Alla (From Here and There): Celebrating the Vast Connectedness of Diasporas and Indigenous Communities.” The event was hosted by the Chicanx/Latinx Association, one of CoREM’s four member organizations.

CoREM serves as a collective of minoritized faculty, staff and administrator organizations at MSU, all dedicated to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion on campus. These groups are instrumental in fostering an environment that supports the recruitment, retention and success of a diverse campus community.

The reception featured remarks from President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, Ph.D., Interim Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Thomas D. Jeitschko, Ph.D., and Director of the Diversity Research Network Deborah J. Johnson, Ph.D. Each CoREM organization introduced themselves and extended invitations for attendees to engage further with their efforts.
