ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Molefi Kete Asante is Professor, Department of Africology at Temple University in Philadelphia. He is the President of the Molefi Kete Asante Institute for Afrocentric Studies. Asante is Professor Extraordinarius at the University of South Africa. He is the Founding Editor, Journal of Black Studies, and was the first director of University of California, Los Angele’s Center for Afro-American Studies. Asante, often called the most prolific African American scholar, has published 104 books and 500 articles. He obtained his doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has taught at several universities, and the Zimbabwe Institute of Mass Communication. His nearly two hundred doctoral students, from Africa, the Americas, Europe, and Asia, occupy important posts throughout the world. Asante holds honorary degrees from several African and American universities. As the founder of the Afrocentric paradigm, he remains one of the seminal thinkers in the African world.

ABOUT THE TALK

Often concealed or distorted in historical accounts, the creative energies of the people of Africa laid the foundations of science and technology. This conversation shows how early African civilization set the basis for much of what we know today about science and technology. In this presentation Asante provides an overarching framework for understanding the advancements made by African scientists.
