The flagship performing entity of Detroit’s Sphinx Organization, committed to amplifying Black and Latino voices in classical music, the Sphinx Virtuosi is hailed for their breathtaking performances across the country. The ensemble will bring their American Form/s program, celebrating the richness of American classical music. Vibrant, varied, and storied, take a journey through classically framed infusions of soul-stirring spirituals, bluegrass, jazz, blues, and rag. The program features a reimagining of a Scott Joplin’s joyous landscapes, the rhythms of hot new composer Curtis Stewart, a riveting work from 19th century composer Theresa Carreño, and more. The featured soloist is new percussion star Josh Jones, former Detroit Symphony Orchestra Fellow and current Principal Percussion at the Grant Park Festival Orchestra.
