Las Alas Invisibles: The Unseen Wings
Join the Las Alas Invisibles: The Unseen Wings exhibition reception to celebrate MSU’s migrant farmworker and farmer community. Timed with National Farmworker Awareness Week and MSU’s César Chávez and Dolores Huerta Commemorative Celebration, the exhibit traces the migration of monarch butterflies and migrant farmworker labor from the fields to higher education.
The opening reception brings the campus together to recognize migrant farmworker culture, community and achievements. Light food and refreshments will be provided. The exhibition is sponsored by the MSU Union Art Gallery, Office for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion and University Communications.

Gallery description:
Las Alas Invisibles: The Unseen Wings centers the experience of the Michigan State migrant farmworker and farmer community through photos, displays of items from the fields and videos of students reflecting on their experience, lifestyle and successes. The exhibition connects with MSUToday stories, recognizing those who provide our food and challenging notions of what migrant labor looks like in celebration of National Farmworker Awareness Week. Through a theme visualized through butterflies, the gallery draws a parallel between the south-to-north migration of monarch butterflies, indicating when the crops are ready to harvest, and the migration of farmworkers to Michigan. With interactive features, visitors can take a photo with a butterfly wing backdrop to pin on a map. Other elements include a digital screen, where you can hear from community members firsthand.
The exhibition is conceptualized by Luz Vazquez, a third-year political science major and first-generation migrant farmworker student at MSU.

Únete a la recepción de la exposición Las Alas Invisibles: The Unseen Wings para celebrar la comunidad de trabajadores agrícolas migrantes y agricultores de MSU. Programado junto con la Semana Nacional de Conciencia de los Trabajadores Agrícolas y la Celebración Conmemorativa de César Chávez y Dolores Huerta de MSU, la exposición traza la migración de las mariposas monarca y el trabajo de los trabajadores agrícolas migrantes desde los campos hasta la educación superior.
La recepción de apertura reúne al campus para celebrar la cultura, comunidad y logros de los trabajadores agrícolas migrantes. Se ofrecerán bocadillos ligeros y refrescos.

Las Alas Invisibles: The Unseen Wings centra la experiencia de la comunidad de trabajadores agrícolas migrantes y agricultores de Michigan State a través de fotos, exhibiciones de objetos de los campos y videos de estudiantes reflexionando sobre su experiencia, estilo de vida y éxitos. La exposición se conecta con las historias de MSUToday, reconociendo a aquellos que nos proveen alimentos y desafiando las nociones sobre cómo se ve el trabajo migrante en celebración de la Semana Nacional de Conciencia de los Trabajadores Agrícolas.
