MSU 2030 Strategic Plan: Access, Opportunity and Excellence strategic priority framing

August 7, 2025 - Jabbar R. Bennett, Ph.D.

Dear colleagues,

Earlier today, President Guskiewicz introduced the refreshed, reframed and reimagined strategic plan — MSU 2030: Excellence for Global Impact. This guiding document reaffirms our enduring values as a public land-grant institution and signals a shift to include language that articulates and embodies our long-standing commitment to access, opportunity and excellence for all.

As you may recall, it was envisioned that the MSU 2030 strategic plan would be updated several years into execution. This step anticipated the need to reflect on changes within and beyond the university in consideration of the context and environment in which we pursue our mission.

During the plan refresh, the university has been engaged in a process of ongoing review, led by the Office of General Counsel, to ensure compliance with long-standing antidiscrimination laws and our own university policies. That review includes making sure language used in university materials and communications — including the strategic plan — conveys our continued adherence to applicable laws.

Use of the Access, Opportunity and Excellence strategic priority framing, as well as other updates made to the strategic plan, reflects our obligation to be responsive to evolving institutional, legal and social factors while remaining steadfast in our commitment to creating a welcoming environment that supports the success of all students, staff and faculty.

Background about the Access, Opportunity and Excellence framework can be found on the IDI website, and broader updates will be forthcoming. FAQs on diversity initiatives/Prop 2 are available on the Office of General Counsel website.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we move forward together.

Sincerely,

Jabbar R. Bennett, Ph.D.
Vice President and Chief Inclusion Officer
